2009 Team Award Winners
Evan Warner - Most Valuable Player
Evan was an easy choice for MVP. Out of the lead off spot, Evan would create all sorts of problems for opposing teams. Evan hit over .400, stole more than 30 bases, and threw out a team leading five runners from the outfield. Evan's ability to cover center field AND the gaps was a tremendous plus for the Oaks. The old saying "speed kills" certainly applies here.
Skylar Brewer - Tony Mak Award
This award is given annually to the player who would have made legendary coach, Tony Makjavich the most proud. This award goes to the player who demonstrates leadership, hustle, and determination.
Skylar had a really good summer for the Oaks. Skylar showed his versatility by spending time in the outfield, first base, and on the mound. Skylar was a clutch hitter seemingly always getting a hit that tied or put us ahead. He jacked a homerun to secure the win against rival Fontanetti's. While these are all worthy aspects of this award, Skylar also took over the responsibilty for the mound and after practice and between games made sure the mound was in as good a shape as possible. Tony would surely be proud!
