Palo Alto Oaks News and Updates

2012 is a year of change for the Palo Alto Oaks. Former Manager, Steve Espinoza, has relinquished those duties in favor of the General Manager role. Greg Matson will serve as the new Manager, along with continuing as a vital member of the pitching staff. Joey Ordonez, who brings with him numerous years of high quality coaching experience, will fill the role of Head Coach.

In addition, the Oaks will play an expanded schedule against competition outside of the league. The schedule will feature a couple mid-week night games, Saturday games, and Sunday double headers against top local teams.

Despite being one of the top teams in California for a number of years, the Oaks have never hosted a playoff tournament. That will change this summer as the Oaks have been selected to host the West Regional! In keeping with the theme of playoff firsts, the Stan Musial World Series will be played in Florida (Port St. Lucie to be exact) for the first time in its history.

On an exciting note for all you position players, in preperation for the season, Steve Espinoza successfully pettitioned the AABC to allow the use of professional style helmets for the 2012 playoffs.

So while the changes are plentiful, the goal for the Oaks remains the same: get those rings!

In keeping with Tony Makjavich's tradition, one thing that won't change is the Oaks being free to all players. As a result, the team relies heavily on donations from its supporters to help fund the season, especially the (hopeful) trip to the World Series.
